CLIMATE
Lowlands & Islands - Warm to hot and humid throughout the year. Highlands ? Warm in the day time and Cool to Cold in the night. There is a rainy season, which varies from province to province. Sunshine is very strong and Sunscreen is a must for countrywide. .
CUSTOMS & QUARANTINE
Adults over 18 have a general allowance of new goods to the value of K250 and are allowed duty free:
● 200 cigarettes or 50 cigars or 250 grams of tobacco
● 2 litres of alcohol.
● A reasonable amount of perfume.
Drugs, pornographic literature or video tapes, firearms and weapons are prohibited. Food items, seeds, spices, live or dry plants, animals, animal products and biological specimens such as cultures and blood need special import approval.

DRESS
Casual wear is accepted in most of the places. Due to cultural reason, modest dressing is highly recommended for female. For those traveling to Highlands, sweater, jacket, long troseous are required as it gets very cool/cold in the night.
ELECTRICAL VOLTAGE
Electrical power is 240 volts. The type of plug that electrical appliance use in PNG, is TYPE I. You may be able to obtain power point adaptor but very difficult to get voltage converter in PNG. Some hotels provide 110 volt outlets in guest rooms for shavers and hair dryers.
HEALTH ISSUE
Malaria exists in Lowland. Not exists in Highlands.

LANGUAGE
There are more than 800 languages in the country. Pidgin and and Motu are common language between the different language groups and widely used, but English is the official language and understood in most parts of the country.
MONEY
PNG Kina is official currency. Kina is divided into 100 toea. Major Hotels & Shops accept Visa & Master cards , some also accepts Amex & JCB cards.
RESTAURANTS
Port Moresby has many Asian restaurants but in other town, there are very limited choices but eat at Hotels. Most of the Hotels serve Australian-influenced Western Food. Local food is very difficult to eat unless you are invited to a local house but can be eaten during some village tours.
SOUVENIRS
PNG Coffee has reputation as one of the best coffees in the world and should not be missed. Unique Artifacts are also popular souvenir. Artifact items produced before 1960 are restricted exports. National Museum Staff must inspect them before an export permit can be considered. Export of Bird of Paradise plumes as well as stone artifacts - except stone axes - is prohibited.
TIME ZONE
PNG is 10 hours ahead of GMT and same time zone with Brisbane, Sydney in Australia.
TRANSPORTATION
Transportation is mostly by air across PNG. Road travel between the major towns is not always safe and not encouraged for tourists. Hire and rental cars are also not recommended unless you know the road, people and language. Regular taxi service is only available in Port Moresby.
VISA
From most of the countries, tourist Visa up to 60days can be obtained on arrival at Port Moresby Airport.Fee is PGK100 or US$37 at this moment. Please consult with nearest PNG Embassy/High Commission for more information.
WATER
All major towns have reticulated water, but as a visitor to the country, you are recommended to drink bottle of water or boiled water. Most of the major hotels in the country are equipped with jag in the room.
