Day 1: Tuesday

  • Arrive: Port Moresby by respective flights
  • Transit to Goroka by PX962 1455/1605
  • Transfer and Check in at Hotel
  • Meal: No (o/n Goroka)

Day 2: Wednesday

  • After Breakfast, depart Goroka by Road for Kegusugul. (approx 6 hours)
  • Lunch at Kundiawa on the way
  • After a bumpy road drive up the limestone country, arrive Kegusugul at the foot of Mt Wilhelm (2,800m)
  • After arrival, visit nearby village for traditional culture performance
  • Meal: BLD (o/n Kegusugul)

Day 3: Thursday

  • Start walking from Kegusugul to Lake Piunde. It is a moderate 3-4 hours walk though the Highlands Forest, then grassland to the base camp hut beside the lake at 3,475m
  • After Lunch at base camp hut, spend the afternoon walking or resting to adjust the body to the high altitude. This is important to avoid possible Altitude Sickness (AMS)
  • Meal: BLD (o/n Lake Piunde Hut)

Day 4: Friday

  • Wake up Midnight. After a small meal, start walking to the summit.
  • Some major points on the way:
    • Lake Aunde at 3,625m - This is the last main water point before the summit
    • "Plane Crash" at 4,000m - the area is named after the American Bomber which has crashed around here during World War 2
    • "Christopher Donan" at 4,400m - named after an Australian soldier who has lost around here in 1971
  • On a clear day, you can see Manam Island on the Bismarck Sea, Finisterre Range, Mt Otto, Whagi Valley, Mt Herbert etc.
  • Snow was witnessed in previous trekking, but is not common. (probably because of global warming, there is less snow witnessed these days) Back to Lake Piunde Hut
  • Meal: BLD (o/n Lake Piunde Hut)

Day 5: Saturday

  • After Breakfast, walk back from Lake Piunde to Kegusugul
  • After a quick shower, depart to Goroka by vehicle
  • Meal: BL (o/n Goroka)

Day 6: Sunday

  • Today visit Asaro valley village, to see Asaro Mudman performance, enjoy local Mumu Lunch
  • Meal: BL (o/n Goroka)

Day 7: Monday

  • Early morning Depart Goroka to Madang by Road
  • Drop in at Kainantu Culture Centre, enjoy panoramic view of Highland Highway - via Yonki Dam, Ram Sugar Plantation and arrive Madang in the afternoon
  • Meal: B (o/n Madang)

Day 8: Tuesday

  • Morning visit Kau Wildlife Management area for nature walk in the tropical rainforest
  • Meal: B (o/n Madang)

Day 9: Wednesday

  • Harbor Cruise around Madang Harbor, including a visit to the island and snorkeling.
  • Madang is famous for its healthy coral reef and rich fish life.
  • Meal: B (o/n Madang)

Day 10: Thursday

  • Morning Depart Madang for Port Moresby by PX111 1130/1230
  • Depart Port Moresby for Singapore by PX392 1640/2100
  • Meal: B
